“People say that the more you conservatives attack the president with wild, absurd accusations, the more likely the president will be re-elected in the first round.

Wishing for this, I suggest that the conservatives do not stop. Although the imagination is poor, there is still time. Voters will not need to travel to the second round, and the state will save millions of euros, which could be spent, for example, on the maintenance of rolling roads,” said V. Blinkevičiūtė, speaking to members of the party council.

The leader of the Social Democrats criticized the right-wing parties and their presidential candidate Ingrida Šimonytė for equating meetings with residents to “Christmas”. “And we communicate and will communicate with the residents. We will not run or hide from them, as some conservatives do.

Conservatives are mistaken in thinking that all the people of Lithuania do not understand what is happening.

And strange things are happening in Lithuania. It turned out that road signs of Soviet design are the most harmful to traffic and Lithuania. We will build new ones, spend tens of millions and accidents will decrease, everyone will see that this is the crossing and everything will change?! It seems to me that the conservatives no longer understand the reality of life or their priorities,” the leader of the Social Democrats accused the conservatives of a lack of common sense.

V. Blinkevičiūta was particularly bothered that I. Šimonytė was in no hurry to appoint the new Minister of Education, Science and Sports: “The education system was reformed so much that the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports itself needed social assistance. The Minister of Social Security and Labor took over the helm of the Ministry, probably until the end of the term.

Experiments on humans are prohibited in a democratic world. Unfortunately, this does not apply to the Ministry of Education, which constantly conducts experiments with young people, in this case, with schoolchildren.”

The leader of the Social Democrats was indignant about the problems that arose during the mid-term examinations of eleventh graders, which forced Minister Gintautas Jakštas to resign from his post, and apologized to the education community, schoolchildren and their parents for the chaos in the education system.

V. Blinkevičiūtė also resented the investigation of the so-called reporter’s story in the Seimas, which allegedly smeared not only the president, but also the General Prosecutor’s Office, the Special Investigation Service, and the State Security Department.

The politician believes that the investigation was biased, and the members of the commission may have exceeded their mandate.

V. Blinkevičiūtė also got in the way of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Agne Bilotaitai, who complained to the prosecutors about G. Nausėdas regarding the published information about the attackers of the representative of the Russian opposition, Leonidas Volkov, detained in Poland. The former Minister of Social Security and Labor said that she did not remember such a case and could not imagine that it would have been possible before.

According to V. Blinkevičiūtė, the conservatives opened a new battle front before the elections. “They (conservatives, – ed.) cannot stop without fighting someone. They must have an enemy. If there is no enemy – that’s all, they don’t get fired up, they don’t get excited, they don’t get motivated,” the leader of the leftists ironically said.

V. Blinkevičiūtė was also surprised that no decisions have yet been made regarding higher defense funding: “If the words spoken about defense funding were converted into euros, we would have already collected a record defense budget.

Because for almost four months, Prime Minister I. Šimonytė has been organizing “discussion groups” regarding additional funds for defense.

There is still talk, but there are no solutions – no projects have been submitted to the Seimas so far. Why? It should have been done a long time ago.”

V. Blinkevičiūtė ironically said that even though she has been in politics for a long time, even she was deceived when she listened to the government’s talk about more funds for defense: “Even I believed that a solution would be found here soon, even I was able to be deceived.”

According to the leader of the Social Democrats, this is an attempt to mask the Government’s inactivity and lack of determination. “The intimidation of the rulers by war and the delay in making decisions force people to choose: invest in Spanish resorts or invest in Lithuania’s defense.” This is bad, it is a consequence of the conservative government’s unaccepted decisions,” said V. Blinkevičiūtė.

She believes that conservatives and liberals are simply looking for ways to preserve certain tax benefits for the rich. “That’s when such strange proposals are born. The Social Democrats have long said what they support and where they can find funds for defense. This is an increase in corporate income tax by more than one percent. We will not withdraw from this position,” said V. Blinkevičiūtė.
