Hosting Azerbaijan could double gas exports to Europe as it prepares to host the next Climate Summit in 2024″>COP29 in Azerbaijan demonstrates the country’s importance on the world stage.
As Day.Az reports, Polish political scientist, candidate of political sciences Jakub Koreyba told Trend on Tuesday
“Azerbaijan is trusted to host events on a global scale. The importance of Azerbaijan, the strength and authority of the country go far beyond the region. Azerbaijan is not only the leader of the South Caucasus, but also has significant influence outside the region,” he said.
According to Koreyba, the holding of COP29 indicates the growth of Azerbaijan’s position, and it is a fact that the country has established itself as a regional leader.
“Azerbaijan has plans to develop technologies, introduce new ideas, and a vision for the future. This experience is also relevant for other countries and regions,” he said.
The political scientist noted that he was impressed by President Ilham Aliyev’s speech today at the international forum on the topic “COP29 and Green Vision for Azerbaijan.”
“This is an absolutely unique leader, not only from a policy point of view, but also from a strategic communications point of view. The president has mastery of the topic, and it is clear that he delves very deeply into the essence of the issues. The president speaks several foreign languages very well,” Coreiba said.
It should be noted that the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held in Azerbaijan this November. This decision was made at the COP28 plenary meeting held in Dubai on December 11 last year. Within two weeks, Baku, having become the center of the world, will receive about 70-80 thousand foreign guests.
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system. The abbreviation COP (Conference of Parties) stands for Conference of the Parties, which is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change.
There are 198 countries that are parties to the convention. Unless the parties agree otherwise, the COP is held annually. The first COP event took place in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is located in Bonn.
