Enrique Guerrero, the detainee’s brother, mentioned that drug possession is a crime manufactured by the Qataris, at the time when the issue of Manuel’s sexual orientation was left aside.

The lawyer of the person involved responded to the press and mentioned that the judge effectively left aside the issue of sexual orientation and placed the charge of possession and use of drugs.

The defense mentioned that the local authorities planted “a quarter of a gram of methamphetamines” in order to keep the Mexican behind bars, although the main reason was the encounter with people of the same sex.

For this reason, those present highlight that this process has had a violation of due process, arbitrary detention, persecution due to sexual orientation and torture.

It should be noted that during the case, the Mexican did not receive his antiretroviral medication, since he is a patient with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).

The lawyer explained that they are waiting for a new hearing and the sentences range from deportation, keeping him imprisoned or having an acquittal.
