Hot concerns such as significant labor and skills shortages, uncertain digital rules and the changing political climate were discussed by HOTREC members and representatives from across Europe gathered in Budapest for the Association’s 88th General Assembly.
With the European elections and the Hungarian EU presidency just around the corner, Europe’s hospitality industry leaders had the opportunity to reflect and co-decision on political priorities.
It highlights that over the next five years, European hospitality businesses seek to boost tourism, support talent, promote fair digital rules, invest in sustainability and adapt to consumer preferences.
HOTREC in its announcement expresses its sincere thanks to the Hungarian Hotel and Restaurant Association for their excellent hospitality and warmth. He adds: “We look forward to meeting our members again in the fall of 2024 at the next General Assembly in Warsaw, Poland.”
HOTREC President Alexandros Vassilikos, after the 88th General Assembly, said: “This year’s General Assembly is a platform for the European hospitality industry to clarify and defend policies that will help hospitality businesses grow, stay competitive and adopt sustainable practices”.
The president of HOTREC points out that: “The Digital Markets Act is a game changer for the European hospitality industry. We need to work with decision makers to ensure that the rules are fair and transparent and that they support innovation while protecting our interests.”
He concludes: “With the EU elections just around the corner, our role is to reach out to MEPs and potential candidates to make sure our voices are heard. Tourism and hospitality must remain high on the political agenda!’
Marie Audren, General Manager of HOTREC, then commented: “HOTREC is now a large and representative association, and expanding! I am pleased to announce that our Turkish friends from the Tourism Development and Education Foundation – TUGEV – will be joining forces with us.”
