A judicial order arrests officials of the Agricultural Bank on corruption charges

The Public Prosecutor’s Office issued a pretrial detention order against a former general manager of the Agricultural Bank, a director of the credit department, a former director of the bank’s branch – Qasr Bin Ghashir, and a member of the legal office, on charges of illicit gain and breach of responsibility entrusted to them.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office stated in a statement today that precautionary measures have been taken aimed at: arresting and bringing in the beneficiaries, preventing the disposal of funds and properties owned by them, and tracking down what fell into the hands of their spouses and children.

The Deputy Public Prosecutor, in the Public Prosecutor’s Office, examined information related to incidents of illicit gain that arose from banking operations carried out at the Agricultural Bank, and the investigator inferred that the business leaders had failed to fulfill the responsibility entrusted to them.

The defendants deliberately granted loans in the amount of one billion and four hundred million dinars, in violation of credit granting systems, and investigations indicated that part of the funds were disbursed in the form of credit granted to finance production operations, and fictitious investments whose documents were written contrary to the truth, and the granting of another part of the funds – the subject of traceability – without the availability of guarantees.
