The Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) and the International Football Association Board (IFAB) are discussing the issue of changing the duration of football matches from 90 to 60 minutes, former English referee Mark Clattenburg wrote in his column for the Daily Mail.
It is assumed that the stopwatch will be stopped during the breaks announced during the game, as is customary, for example, in hockey or basketball.
Clattenburg cites complaints from losing teams for giving them unjustifiably few minutes as compensatory time as the main reason for this. According to him, the most recent example is Manchester City, who lost to Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Champions League. The English club rebuked the referee for giving only 3 minutes as compensation the team needed only one goal to “save” the outcome of the game.
According to the former referee, if the decision to shorten the game time is adopted, similar problems will be solved, no contradictions will arise, because each game will have the same duration.
