Once again, the benefits of keeping Kylian Mbappe at bay have been shown. Borussia Dortmund did the same thing in their home ground. The German team left the field with victory in the first leg of the semi-finals in the Champions League with the only goal scored in the first half. Their win against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) was 1-0.
Nicolas Fulkrug scored the only goal of the match in the first leg of the semi-final at Signal Eduna Park on Wednesday (March 1) night. The German star scored the goal with a fine finish in the first half.
Dortmund started to attack from the beginning of the match at home. The German club made the first attack in the fourteenth minute. However, Marcel Sabitza’s effort was stopped by PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
But without being disappointed, Borussia continued to attack one after another. Due to this, they went ahead in the 36th minute. Nico Schlotterbeck lofted the ball forward. Avoiding the offside trap, Fullkrug took control of the ball with his first touch and entered the box to beat Donnarumma with a left-footed shot.
Even though the first half was quite dull, PSG started to match themselves from the beginning of the second half. They could take the first shot on target in the 48th minute. Barkola’s shot was blocked by the goalkeeper. In the 51st minute, PSG’s luck stuck to the post. Mbappe and Ashraf Hakimi took two consecutive shots. Both get stuck in the post.
Fulkrug missed the chance in the 60th minute. Dembele missed another chance in the 72nd minute. Another of his shots flew over the crossbar in the 80th minute. After that in the rest of the attack and counter-attack, no one saw the goal.
The two teams will return to PSG’s home ground next Tuesday. The French champions started the season by beating Dortmund 2-0 at home.
