CNN reported on the 3rd that protests at American universities protesting Israel’s attack on the Gaza Strip are expanding around the world.
In the United States, since the 18th of last month, about 2,200 students at Columbia University and elsewhere have been arrested while staging sit-in protests.
The broadcast reported that sympathy movements are spreading in the form of protests and sit-ins at universities in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
In Australia, protests in support of Palestine have been held at seven universities, including Quizland University in Brisbane, over the past few weeks. At the University of Brisbane, pro-Palestine and pro-Israel supporters pitched large and small tents against each other about 100 meters apart.
Pro-Palestinian students demanded that the university cut ties with Israeli companies and universities.
Students at the University of Sydney are staging a sit-in protest by setting up about 50 tents on campus and sleeping in shifts.
Protests have been taking place at British universities since Israel began its war against the Gaza Strip, and tents have recently begun to appear on campus at universities such as Newcastle University.
They aim to end the university’s relationship with defense companies that supply weapons to Israel.
In France, protests in support of Palestine began to erupt at places such as the Sorbonne in late April. Footage was also released of the police dragging students out of tents and cracking down on them.
They demanded an end to the ‘Holocaust in Gaza’ and a boycott of Israeli universities.
Students at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi, India, also demonstrated in solidarity with Columbia University in the United States. Because of the protests, U.S. Ambassador Eric Garcetti’s visit to the university was postponed.
Additionally, students at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, have set up tents and are staging a sit-in protest demanding the severance of relations with companies linked to Israel.
A protest in support of Palestine also took place at the American University in Beirut, Lebanon, in the Middle East.
