Rasa Petrauskienė, the chairwoman of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) working group of the Seimas Future Committee, which registered such a project, and the members of this group believe that it will improve legislative processes, provide opportunities for information analysis and improve the decision-making process.
“The proposed provisions on the use of AI in the activities of Seimas members should contribute to more effective decision-making and data management, more transparent activities, better representation of citizens and the promotion of innovation in the activities of the Seimas,” says the document’s explanatory note.
If the parliament approves, Seimas members would have the right “to ethically and responsibly use artificial intelligence (AI) systems and other high-tech tools and measures in their activities.”
According to the authors of the project, parliamentarians could use AI systems for information collection, analysis and decision-making. The politicians who initiated the amendments to the statute believe that using AI systems can automate processes related to public records management, document management and information submission. According to them, AI systems would allow more efficient handling of large amounts of data, analysis of trends and identification of important phenomena. It is also expected that the inclusion of AI systems in the activities of the Seimas will promote innovation and technological progress in state management.
The initiators of the amendments to the statute also emphasize the need to ensure a high level of security and privacy using artificial intelligence, and compliance with data protection standards.
