Mr. Director
I watched her with interest last weekthe publications of Mr. Ilias Maglinis for the publishing process of “Life in the grave” by Stratis Myrivilis, which today is a classic work. I would like to add the following:
1. When Venizelos read this book, he decided that it is superior to “None Younger”. I imagine that he gave his opinion objectively and not patriotically or partisanly…
2. In addition to the Balkan wars, the 1st P.P. and Asia Minor, Myrivilis also went to the Albanian war as a war correspondent! He was then exactly 50 years old. On December 29, 1940, the newspaper “Akropolis” with a front page two-column article announced the departure of Myrivilis for the Front (while this newspaper had already sent the journalist Ev. Thomopoulos). At the same time, a photo of Myrivilis with campaign equipment (cap, hat, backpack, boots, staff, etc.) was published. The publication closes with a letter from the author himself, who says, among other things, that he did not want to remain “an applauder of the gallery and a philological beggar” etc., but that he is ready to go where history is written “in red letters on the snow of Arvaniteia”.
3. As a simple reader and nothing else, I would say that “Life in the grave” is written in a literary vernacular (Arvanity type) and with many idioms, for which we have some reservations today, without this reducing the value of the work.
