Recognition by Israel of the Moroccan nature of the Sahara: France ‘can no longer bury its head in the sand’ (French MP)

Paris – The French MP and spokesperson for the Democratic Movement (MoDem), Bruno Fuchs, welcomed Israel’s ”very strong” decision to recognize Morocco‘s sovereignty over its Sahara, estimating that France ”cannot no more burying your head in the sand.

”France, which sees its relations deteriorating day after day with its Moroccan ally, can no longer bury its head in the sand. She must take a position,” Mr. Fuchs tweeted.

The French MP and Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie also highlighted the “very strong and bold decision that Israel has just taken”.

A press release from the Royal Cabinet announced, Monday, that His Majesty King Mohammed VI received a letter from the Prime Minister of the State of Israel, Benyamin Netanyahu by which he brought to the Very High Attention of the Sovereign the decision of his country to recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara.

In this regard, the Israeli Prime Minister indicated that this position of his country will be “reflected in all relevant acts and documents of the Israeli Government.” He further stressed that the said decision will be “transmitted to the United Nations, regional and international organizations of which Israel is a member, as well as to all countries with which Israel maintains diplomatic relations.”

In his letter to the Sovereign, the Israeli Prime Minister informed that Israel is positively examining “the opening of a Consulate in the city of Dakhla”, as part of the implementation of this state decision.
