Despite the government’s attempts to slow down the rise in living costs in Israel, citizens are increasingly faced with rising prices for basic products and goods. According to analysts, the cost of the grocery basket in leading supermarkets increased by 6 percent over the month.

Representatives of the Institute for Retail Trade Research conducted an analysis of product prices in 9 retail chains in early April and May 1. First of all, they observed how the cost of dairy products, chicken, fish, baked goods, drinks, and essential goods changed. In total, the basket includes 149 units of various products from famous brands.

It turned out that prices rose the most in the Rami Levy chain – by almost 10 percent, even before the wave of price increases in May. In Yohananof, the cost of goods jumped by 8.5 percent, in Carrefour Hyper – by 7.68 percent, in Osher Hell, goods increased in price by 6.57 percent, in Tiv Taam – 5.56 percent. The lowest growth rates of food prices were recorded in the Shufersel Dil chain.

At the same time, the cheapest grocery basket still remains in the Rami Levy chain; Israelis there will pay 1,847.49 shekels for a set of basic products. In second place was “Osher Hell” – 1877.7 shekels. And the most expensive place to buy groceries is at the Fresh Market store – 2,271.74 shekels.

It should be noted that since the beginning of May of this year, Israel has experienced an accelerated increase in prices for various goods and services, which creates additional financial challenges for many citizens.

“Cursor” wrote earlier that the price of ice cream from a popular chain will rise in Israel.
