Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan hosted the athletes and coaches of the Armenian national team participating in the Summer Olympics. Chief of the Prime Minister’s Office Arayik Harutyunyan, Acting Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Vahram Dumanyan, President of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia Gagik Tsarukyan, Deputy Minister of KGSMS Karen Giloyan were also present at the meeting.
Nikol Pashinyan welcomed the athletes and noted that the Armenian people will be with them wholeheartedly and wholeheartedly and will wait for their competitions. “In general, I think that the role of sports and especially the Olympic movement should not be underestimated, because Olympians, athletes are the ambassadors of our country, who represent our people, our country.
And the country’s image is also determined to a great extent by the competitions of our athletes on various platforms. I hope that we will have concrete results in these Olympic Games. 17 athletes from 8 sports are going to the Olympic Games. Of course, there is a very fine edge here. it is important that we cheer up the Olympians, encourage them to win, and on the other hand, not to put such additional responsibility and obligation on their shoulders, which would constrain them on the platform. This is perhaps the most difficult task for all of us, the National Olympic Committee, the government, the ministry, and the coaching staff. how to encourage our athletes sufficiently, on the other hand, not to constrain them while waiting for that victory, so that they can reveal their full potential.”
The Acting Prime Minister added that the government has consistently dealt with solving the problems of athletes. “I am sure that many questions did not reach me, and the Ministry, the Olympic Committee and the federations have resolved them. I would very much like that before this Olympics we could imbue our Olympic team with real team logic and motivation.
Of course, we need victories, more than usual, so that our country regains self-confidence, faith in the future, confidence in its own strength after going through these difficult trials. I think this goes without saying. I am sure that our athletes, Olympians know all this very well, they know it better than us. I am sure that there is no need to say all this in the sense of encouraging them, because there is no doubt that everyone will do their best to present the flag of the Republic of Armenia and the anthem from the Olympic platform,” said Nikol Pashinyan.
The Acting Prime Minister thanked all the people who participated in the Olympic Games for preparing our national team at the best possible level. “I also want to thank our athletes, coaches, who gave new charges with their dedication. I think our Olympic team should treat its mission with special love and care, but, I say again, I hope that this special period, special responsibility should not constrain you either, because constraints can always lead to certain problems. So I wish everyone success,” said Nikol Pashinyan.
Vahram Dumanyan, Acting Minister of Sports and Sports, informed that the Ministry has done everything and will continue to do everything to ensure the best training of athletes. “Mr. Prime Minister, we thank you and the government for the attention you pay especially to sports. Recently, we witnessed that you are interested in the schedule and problems of our athletes on a daily basis. I just want to reaffirm so that our athletes, leaders of the Olympic Committee and all of us know that we will always be steadfast in this matter and will do our best, no matter where it is impossible,” said Vahram Dumanyan.
The President of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia, Gagik Tsarukyan, in his turn noted that the conditions of the coronavirus and the state of emergency have caused problems for athletes, in particular, from the point of view of participating in tournaments and securing a larger number of Olympic ranking tickets. The NAOC president added that the tickets to these Olympic Games through white cards have been refused and only the strongest athletes will participate in the games. “This time we decided that only the strong will go. Today’s participants are the strongest, all of them are medalists, they didn’t get a rating just like that. This time we expect 3-5 medals. All of them are champions, trained, experienced, participated in Olympic, World and European championships. The goal of their life is to be able to participate in the Olympic Games, to uphold the honor of the nation, to raise the tricolor, to sing the national anthem. There are no problems, all issues have been settled together with the government, the ministry, the federation and the Olympic Committee,” Gagik Tsarukyan said.
KGS Deputy Minister Karen Giloyan also noted that they were in daily contact with the Olympic Committee, there were no unresolved issues. “The athletes spent all the training sessions where they wanted. We have invited everyone who should have been to the trainings. The dumbbells have also arrived, they will carry out the last trainings with them and leave. The numbers given by Mr. Tsarukyan are very good, may God let it be so,” Giloyan noted. The deputy minister added that the Olympic awards have not been reviewed in recent years.
Reacting, Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted that the necessary solution will be given to the issue.
Then the athletes and coaches referred to the results of the preparatory meetings and emphasized that they will spare no effort to keep the honor of the motherland high at the Olympic Games.
At the end of the meeting, Nikol Pashinyan wished the Olympians success. “Waiting for successes and victories, have a good journey, whatever we promised, we will do everything,” concluded the Acting Prime Minister.
