Mother’s Day will be celebrated this Sunday, May 12, but those who have planned outdoor activities may postpone their plans. When it comes to nice weather, not everyone is a winner in the province this weekend.
“This weekend, we will find ourselves under the influence of a trough, in other words, a mass of cold air at high altitude. This area of low pressure promotes cloud formation and precipitation, providing unstable weather. “Temperatures will also be cooler than normal in the event of a trough,” explains meteorologist Kevin Cloutier.
Scattered showers will cause problems
Intermittent rain is expected mainly in the Montreal area as well as Montérégie and Estrie. However, you should also expect rain in the Laurentians, Abitibi-Témiscamingue and Gaspésie.
“For Mother’s Day this year, temperatures will be a little cooler than the last two years, with more clouds and rain,” says meteorologist Kevin Cloutier.
expected clearing
In between some rains, the sun will appear. In Val-d’Or, Quebec and Gaspé, there will be an average of about seven hours of sunshine this weekend. In Montreal, Sunday will be especially cloudy, as the amount of sunshine will be cut in half from one day to the next.
In Saguenay, Quebec and Sept-Îles, the weather will still be mild, with changeable skies and less than a millimeter of precipitation expected. The temperature in these three cities will be 15, 13 and 7 degrees respectively.
Temperatures colder than normal in southern Quebec
“Temperatures in southern Quebec this time of year will be around 15 degrees while the normal temperature would be around 18 degrees. So, we are still a few degrees below normal,” reports meteorologist Kevin Cloutier.
