On May 8, the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Rumen Radev and his wife Desislava Radeva, who are on an official visit to Azerbaijan, got acquainted with the National Gymnastics Arena.
As Day.Az reports with reference to AZERTAC, Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gaibov and Deputy Minister Mariana Vasileva informed the President of Bulgaria and his wife about the conditions created at the arena.
It was reported that the National Gymnastics Arena, designed for 9,600 spectators, consists of two parts. The arena regularly carries out the process of preparing gymnasts for international competitions. The gym here consists of the main competitive and auxiliary training parts. The arena has training rooms, auditoriums, and a canteen for athletes. The complex also houses a press center, a primary health care center, choreography and gyms, doping control rooms, administrative offices, shops, cafes and other utility rooms. A hotel was also built on the territory of this sports facility, which is one of the best gymnastics complexes in the world. It was noted that the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation is also actively involved in broadly involving the population in physical culture and recreational activities, training national athletes, forming and preparing national teams, sending them to international competitions and training camps. Here, about 200 boys and girls over 12-13 years of age, along with sports activities, based on an agreement with the Ministry of Education, also continue their education. The Federation develops relations with sports organizations of foreign countries and international sports structures.
It was noted that a number of reputable sports competitions were organized at the National Gymnastics Arena at a high level. Along with prestigious international tournaments in various types of gymnastics, this grand arena hosted the opening ceremony of the 42nd World Chess Olympiad in 2016, the gymnastics competitions of the First European Games in 2015, and the IV Islamic Solidarity Games in 2017, in 2018 year – World Judo Championship.
After getting acquainted with the complex, the President of Bulgaria and his wife watched the demonstration performances of the gymnasts.
After talking with the gymnasts, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev and First Lady Desislava Radeva met with Bulgarian athletes and sports figures active in Azerbaijan.
At the end, there was a mutual exchange of gifts and a souvenir photo was taken.
