US authorities last week suspended the supply of 3,500 aerial bombs to Israel amid concerns that they could be used during a military operation in the city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip.
As Day.Az reports with reference to TASS, an official in the American administration told CNN about this.
According to him, we are talking about suspending the supply of 1.8 thousand bombs weighing 2 thousand pounds (907 kg), as well as 1.7 thousand bombs weighing 500 pounds (about 227 kg). “We are particularly focused on the issue of using 2,000-pound bombs and the impact they can have in densely populated urban areas, as we have seen in other parts of Gaza,” the unnamed official told CNN.
As The New York Times points out, citing officials in the American administration, US President Joe Biden, for the first time since the start of Israel’s military operation in the Gaza Strip, used the suspension of arms supplies as a tool of pressure on the policies of the Jewish state. It is noted that this measure was “a sign of the growing split between the United States and Israel regarding the way the war is fought.” The publication writes that the US administration is considering whether to suspend future deliveries, including guidance kits that can turn conventional bombs into precision weapons.
