“He was the kindest, most generous, spirited and loving person,” said Ian Gelder’s husband.
Ian Gelder died on Monday (May 6th) at the age of 74. His husband Ben Daniels announced this via Instagram. It wasn’t until December 2023 that Gelder was diagnosed with bile duct cancer.
Less than six months later, the actor succumbed to cancer. “None of us had any idea how fast it would happen,” his husband said in the Instagram post.

Touching farewell post
Ben Daniels was the first to announce the news of Gelder’s passing. On Tuesday (May 7), he also shared a couple photo, followed by a poignant caption. “He was my absolute rock and we were partners for more than 30 years. When we weren’t together, we talked to each other every day,” he says, describing the relationship. Daniels remembers his late husband this way: “He was the kindest, most generous, spirited and loving person. He was a wonderful actor and everyone who worked with him was touched by his heart and his light. I honestly don’t know what I’ll do without him by my side.”
The disease seems to have taken funds very bravely. The published picture, which shows a smiling Ian Gelder with his husband, was taken at Christmas. The actor previously went through the “worst three weeks,” Daniels notes. “He dealt with his terrible illness with so much bravery and without self-pity,” he added.
