Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen in the spotlight in Marrakech: recognition of the contribution of Scandinavian cinema to the 7th world art

In an exclusive statement to MAP, the world-renowned actor expressed his joy at being part of this celebration which highlights the place and impact of Scandinavian cinema on the world cinema scene, believing that such recognition constitutes a source of motivation for artists to “persevere in the right direction”.

During the opening ceremony of the 20th edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival, Mads Mikkelsen received the Golden Star from the great American actor Willem Dafoe.

Speaking on this occasion, the Danish artist thanked the organizers for inviting him to this international event and awarding him this honorary prize, expressing his deep joy at returning to the ocher city he has already visited during an event honoring Scandinavian filmmakers.

The tribute paid to Mads Mikkelsen during the 20th edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival is recognition of his global artistic career. Recognized as one of the rare contemporary actors excelling in both Hollywood blockbusters and European auteur cinema, Mikkelsen’s charisma, his daring role choices and his ability to reinvent himself from one film to another make of him one of the most brilliant and respected actors of his generation.

In addition to Mikkelsen, the Marrakech International Film Festival will award the Golden Star to Moroccan director Faouzi Bensaïdi who is, according to the organizers, a leading actor in Moroccan cinema and one of its most illustrious representatives in the international, his films being regularly selected in the biggest festivals in the world.
