TRENTO. He launched awoodcutter’s hatchet against a woman and then fled. It was a busy afternoon yesterday, Friday 10 May, in Val di Fiemme.
I carabinieri of the Cavalese Company they were alerted around 5pm, when the operations center received a call reporting an attempted attack on a woman who was working on behalf of the judicial authority. In the excited phone call, the woman explained that a man – a person known to her – had thrown an ax at her in an attempt to hit her.
Two patrols were brought to the scene who, having heard the first testimonies, set out on the trail of the attacker. The man, a thirty-year-old, was shortly afterwards located in Castello di Fiemme but when the soldiers stopped, he gave himself up to a dangerous escape in a car in the streets of the small center of Fiemme. A short chase ensued, with the fugitive leaving the car and disappearing on foot into the alleys of the town centre.
The escape attempt was unsuccessful as the military positioned themselves near the car and managed to stop the man after a brief struggle, also thanks to the help of a citizen.
When taken to the Carabinieri headquarters in Cavalese, it emerged that the man had a blood alcohol level four times above the legal limit.
The thirty-year-old was arrested considering his manifest dangerousness: he was charged with resisting a public official, attempted aggravated assault, aggravated threats and malicious failure to comply with a judge’s order.
