The Minister of State for Illegal Migration Affairs in the Libyan government appointed by the House of Representatives, Fathi Al-Tabawi, renewed Libya’s refusal to resettle or distribute migrants in Libya, denying at the same time any mistreatment of migrants.

The Libyan News Agency quoted Al-Tabawi as saying in a press statement, on the sidelines of a work meeting organized by the ministry in cooperation with Al-Manahil Al-Afaq Company for Training, Development and Qualification, that the International Organization for Migration is concerned with the deportation of migrants, by receiving several memos from the ministry, and in turn the organization carries out the deportation process voluntarily.

Al-Tabawi pointed out the importance of the immigration file as a priority for the Libyan government that is being dealt with in a more organized and developed manner, calling on the media and security agencies to cooperate and pay more attention to this file.

Al-Tabawi explained that Libya is considered a destination country for neighboring countries, given that migrants enter the country through smuggling networks, with the aim of improving their standard of living, and Libya considers their presence on its territory illegal.

Al-Tabawi pointed out that Libya suffered due to the political repercussions and crises in neighboring countries, which cast a shadow on the situation in Libya and is still paying the price for it, especially the stay of migrants for long periods before crossing to the destination countries, which affected the economic and security situation.
