According to the report of the English newspaper, senior officials of the Ministry of Energy say that according to the preliminary estimates, the price of petrol is likely to decrease by 13 rupees per liter and diesel price by 8 to 9.50 rupees per liter from May 16, 2024, as global prices are widely have fallen as stability has returned to the Middle East following the end of Iran-Israeli missile attacks and the de-escalation of tensions in the Red Sea.

Sources say that the above aid projects have been worked out according to preliminary estimates keeping in mind the last 10 days of trade of POL products in the international market. However, in the next two days, the estimate about the relief will be firmer.
It should be noted that at present the government is also collecting Rs 60 per liter as petroleum levy on petrol and diesel while the dealers are getting a margin of 8.64 per liter on both products.
