Goiás confirms favoritism, beats Ituano and becomes leader of Series B

by time news

Goiás confirmed its favoritism against Ituano and won the duel in Serrinha 2-0, this Friday, in the fourth round of Series B of the Brazilian Championship. What’s more, the team from Goiás will be the leader of the competition. Dieguinho and Paulo Baya, one in each half, scored the goals.

With the result, Goiás reached 10 points and is now behind Santos and Sport, both with nine, who play on the weekend. On the other hand, Ituano sees its crisis increasing more and more. They are the bottom team, still without scoring points in the table.

The game has barely started and Goiás has already demonstrated why they were favorites. With 10 minutes, Dieguinho received the ball in the area and released his foot to open the scoring. Ituano responded with a header from Wálber, saved by Tadeu. The home team had possession of the ball and quality to work with. Paulo Baya took a free kick with class and knocked paint off the post.

The São Paulo team was timid, but when they arrived they always faced danger. Vinicius Paiva received it from Leozinho and hit the crossbar. The ball still bounced over the line. The move made Goiás wake up in the match, as they began to hold the ball more in the attacking field, but without being effective when it came to completing the plays.

The duel came back warm in the second stage. Without much emotion, Goiás continued to control possession of the ball, roaming the area, but still without achieving a shot that would put the goal in danger. Ituano was slow in transitions and abused the long throw, all without success.

When everything seemed like the game would end cold, Goiás extended the score. Wellinton advanced from the right and crossed low for Paulo Baya, just pushing it into the net, at 27. With two ahead, the home team exchanged passes and seeing their opponent dejected, they just managed the result.

In the next round, Goiás visits Paysandu, on Wednesday, at 9:30 pm, at Curuzu, in Belém (PA). Earlier, at 7pm, Ituano hosts Sport, at Novelli Júnior, in the interior of São Paulo.
