by time news

Around the world continue to look towards Ukraine and the crisis on the border with Russia, and today (Wednesday) a senior member of the Ukrainian Security Service issued a statement to the media, in which he referred to the cyber attacks on the country and claimed that “this is the largest cyber attack in our history.”

The senior official added details about the wave of cyber attacks and said that an attack on the country’s security services had also been identified, but it was avoided. In addition, he said that “cyber attacks have become a special tool of countries that want to attack Ukraine and produce manipulation of it.”

According to him, the IP addresses that were identified as part of the attack on state services came from Russia, China, Uzbekistan and the Czech Republic. He added that in Ukraine it is believed that “only Russia has an interest in such cyber attacks, but it is too early to determine who specifically carried out the attacks”.

Yesterday, the Center for Cyber Defense and Information Security of Ukraine confirmed that a DDoS (denial of service) cyber attack has been carried out on the sites of two of the country’s largest banks: Oschadbank and Privatbank, and on the sites of the Ministry of Defense and the military. According to state reports, following the attack ATMs and banking services stopped working.

Oschadbank confirmed the attack and said that “all bank systems are protected and operating as usual. Currently there is only a slowdown in entering the Oschad24 / 7 system due to congestion.”

As you may recall, about a month ago, a number of government sites in the country were attacked. In Kiev, they claimed to have evidence that a cyber attack was most likely carried out by Russia, amid fears that the Russian government was planning a military operation following the failure of talks with the United States and NATO.
