For Sputnik Armenia, the RA Foreign Ministry commented on the statements made by the Israeli Ambassador to Armenia Yoel Lyon on January 1 about the Armenian military and statesman Garegin Nzhdeh.
On the birthday of Garegin Nzhdeh, a group of people held an action in front of his monument, using Nazi symbols. After that, Israel’s ambassador to Armenia, Yoel Lyon (residence: Jerusalem), wrote on the X social network that “the glorification of Nazi accomplice Garegin Nzhdeh is unacceptable” and that “the authorities must take a firm stand against neo-Nazism and any form of anti-Semitism.” In his post, he mentioned the page of the Armenian MFA in X.
Since there was no public comment, Sputnik Armenia sent an inquiry to the Foreign Ministry, asking to comment on Lyon’s statements.
The department announced that the Republic of Armenia considers inadmissible any action based on intolerance, national or religious, as well as any manipulation of the latter, be it for political, propaganda or other reasons.
“At the same time, foreign diplomats accredited in Armenia should show respect and refrain from responding to such provocations that are not relevant to the government or people of the host country,” the message said.
