Weightlifter Andranik Karapetyan, who injured his hand during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games weightlifting tournament, is going to change the weight category.

Pashik Alaverdyan, head coach of the Armenian men’s weightlifting team, said this at a meeting with journalists today and informed that the weightlifter has already resumed training.

“Although Andraniki was operated on in Moscow. He has already started non-weight training. I hope that he will take part in the World Championship to be held in Los Angeles next year, but already in the 85 kg weight class, so as not to injure his hip again,” said P. Alaverdyan.

The latter emphasized that the athlete’s weight class change is due to his injury. “Andranik’s weight must be changed, otherwise he is going to get hurt again,” he said.

Previously, Andranik Karapetyan competed in the 77 kg category.

Andranik was in second place at 174kg after the snatch of the 77kg event at Rio 2016, while Andranik injured his arm in the second approach to 195kg in the push.
