Four months before the planned cinema release of “Gladiator 2”, director Ridley Scott (86) is warming up the legendary film with an exciting trailer. The three-minute video, released by Studio Paramount, shows fight scenes in the Roman Colosseum, some of which also include rhinos and ships.
Paul Mescal as the lead actor of Gladiator
Irish actor Paul Mescal (28, “Woman in the Dark”, “Aftersun”) has trained plenty of muscles for “Gladiator 2”. The main character he plays is Lucius Verus, the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) who is now grown up, who fights for his life as a gladiator and rebels against the people in power in Rome. Denzel Washington plays a Roman statesman, Pedro Pascal is on board as General Marcus Acacius. “Gladiator 2” is scheduled to hit theaters in mid-November.
The original film was a huge hit
In the original film from 2000, Russell Crowe played the famous gladiator Maximus, who kills his rival, the son of the devious emperor Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix), in single combat and ends up dying himself. Lucius Verus, nephew of Commodus, was still a small boy at the time. The blockbuster film won five Oscar trophies, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Crowe.
