Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Ahmed Al-Asadi, confirmed today, Saturday, that the ministry has included more than 3 million children in social protection.

Al-Asadi said in his speech at the Iraqi Children’s Day celebration held by the Social Protection Authority in cooperation with UNICEF, according to a statement received by the (INA), that “the Ministry of Labor, especially the Child Care and Social Protection Authority, worked to ensure children’s rights to good education, and launched a grant for children from poor families to ensure their continuation in school, in addition to comprehensive health care,” noting that “the number of individual children covered by social assistance reached 3 million and 479,523 children, which is the largest number the ministry has reached.”
He pointed out that “the Ministry has been keen to launch the national strategy for early childhood development in the country, which ensures the development of children up to the age of eight and secures their needs.”
He explained that “the efforts of the Ministry, through the Supreme National Committee for Monitoring Violations against Children, have resulted in removing Iraq from the list of children used in armed conflicts,” noting that “the efforts of the Ministry are continuing to provide a safe environment for the protection of children and is working in cooperation with the Council of Representatives to prepare a draft law for the protection of children, which has had its first reading and is awaiting its second reading in preparation for voting on it.”
