The World Youth Wrestling Championship has started in Macon, France.
On the first day of competition, Greco-Roman wrestlers Sergey Simonyan (50 kg), Gevorg Khumaryan (60 kg) and Arman Baghdasaryan (74 kg) took to the mat.
50 kg weight Simonyan didn’t give Azerbaijani Ziyad Zeynalov (8:0) any chance in the opening bout. In the quarter-finals, the Armenian wrestler defeated the Italian athlete and reached the semi-finals, where he lost 4:8 to the Russian Vladislav Melnikov. Simonyan defeated Kyrgyz Adilet Talaibekov with a score of 2:1 in the fight for the bronze medal.
Gevorg Khumaryan, weighing 60 kg, defeated the representative of Uzbekistan in the opening bout, but lost in the next round and was excluded from further competition. 74 kg Arman Baghdasaryan lost 2:5 to Romanian Giorgi Mariea in the first bout, who reached the finals, which gave the Armenian athlete a chance to have a consolation bout with the Turkish athlete. Unfortunately, Baghdasaryan also lost.
