From January 1, people who have engaged in illegal work in Russia can not only be fined, but also deported from the country, reports the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

The department noted that the term of the interim measures adopted by the President of the Russian Federation regarding labor migrants expires on December 31, 2021.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, since March 2020, more than 7 million foreigners have received documents establishing permission to stay in the territory of Russia, 1.5 million of them have registered in the territory of the country.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation strongly urges foreign citizens who do not have work documents to apply to the officials of their department by December 31. In addition, employers must establish employment relations with foreign employees according to the appropriate procedure and inform about it within three days.

The fine for illegal activity in Russia is up to 5,000 rubles. From 2022, migrant workers who are in Russia illegally can be deported with a ban on return.

“Employers who illegally employ foreign citizens may also be fined up to 800,000 rubles for each such employee,” said the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

It should be noted that in December, the department announced that migrant workers will be given chip cards containing the electronic image of the migrant’s face and fingerprints. The document will also contain the main data about his work activities.

Due to the outbreak of the pandemic and the closure of the borders, the number of foreigners in Russia has decreased significantly. As of May 1, 2021, there were 5.66 million foreigners in Russia. As before, the majority of them, 86 percent, are citizens of CIS member states.

In Russia, the number of people arriving from Ukraine (53 percent) and Moldova (51 percent) decreased the most. The number of people coming from Kyrgyzstan decreased by 18 percent, from Armenia by 22 percent, and from Tajikistan by 35 percent.
