At today’s government session, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that during the meeting in Brussels, they reaffirmed the agreement on the construction of the Yeraskh-Julfa-Urdubat-Meghri-Horadiz railway with the President of Azerbaijan.

He noted that this agreement was reached as a result of the discussions of the trilateral Armenia-Azerbaijan-Russia working group dealing with the opening of regional communications.

“This agreement was recorded on November 26 in Sochi at the mediation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, and all this was recorded at the meeting with Council President Charles Michel in Brussels,” said the Prime Minister.

According to him, the railway will operate according to the internationally accepted border and customs rules, on the principle of reciprocity, under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the countries.

“Armenia will have access to Iran and Russia with this railway, and Azerbaijan will have access to Nakhichevan,” Pashinyan elaborated.

According to him, if we manage to start a certain dialogue with Turkey and manage to achieve the opening of the border and communications, then the project can get a much bigger scale.

“In other words, the railway we are talking about exists from Yeraskh to Gyumri, and the railway from Gyumri to Kars also exists. But all I am saying is that we must start the construction, of course, there is a lot of work to be done before the actual construction, of course, part of the work has already been done, but now we have to solve this problem with practical and daily work,” said the Prime Minister. :

He mentioned that they will hold a consultation on this matter.

“Our wish is to have the railway one day earlier, I don’t want to overestimate the importance of this arrangement and project, but on the other hand, I don’t want to underestimate it either. this is an important agreement, which, I hope, we will implement in an accurate way, which will significantly change the economic, investment, and, of course, political and security environment of the region,” said the RA Prime Minister.
