The Election Commission (EC) has constituted a security committee to strengthen the security of the election buildings and Election Training Institute (ETI) buildings. Brigadier General Abul Hasnat Mohammad Sayem, director of the IDEA-2 (Smart Card) project, has been made the head of the seven-member security committee.
This information is known from the office order signed by EC Deputy Secretary Helal Uddin Khan on Monday (July 29).
According to the office order, state property was destroyed and damaged due to vandalism and arson of various government and private institutions and vehicles by some miscreants in the recent student movement. It caused serious disruption in various services including gas, water, electricity, medical and internet. Election Bhavan is a KPI-affiliated institution. This building houses many important equipments, furniture and documents including voter list and national identity card database, EVM customization center, computer lab. In this situation, in view of the reality, the committee was formed to further strengthen the security system of the election building and ETI building.
Scope of Committee
(a) To operate and monitor all CCTV cameras installed.
(b) Monitoring the movement of users in the main building entrance and each floor entrance.
(c) Keeping emergency exits clear and usable.
(d) To verify and activate the fire fighting system and arrange for drills.
(e) Ensuring access to both buildings by verifying identity cards of visitors.
(f) To undertake all activities aimed at ensuring overall safety in the opinion of the Committee.
(g) The committee formed will inform the secretary every 15 days of the activities undertaken and the latest status.
