Finance Minister Tigran Khachatryan announced today in the National Assembly that there was a certain decrease in economic activity during the last two months.
According to him, against economic activity exceeding 5 percent, according to the results of 9 months, they have a cumulative 4.4 percent.
“It is mainly due to the slowdown recorded in two sectors, first of all, certain organizations in the mining sector produced and exported less than they should have produced and exported according to forecasts, secondly, it is due to a certain slowdown in the field of agriculture. If in the first case, we believe that it will be restored in the coming months, because mining companies have a limit on the right to extract for the year, a certain number of tons can be extracted from the subsoil, processed and exported, and if in one or two months they have done more few can recover the rights they missed during the last months,” said the minister.
According to Tigran Khachatran, in the next two months, it is possible to notice a certain recovery in this regard, which will compensate for the slowdown that occurred.
In the case of agriculture, according to the minister, the picture is slightly different.
“According to our preliminary estimates, the reason is also that 2020 was particularly high in terms of certain indicators: grapes, potatoes, there are several main crops that were particularly high in 2020, and in 2021, for one reason or another, we have certain decrease,” said Khachatryan.
He is not sure that they will have a recovery by the end of the year, but noted that such phenomena can always happen, as long as agriculture is not technological.
Regarding their forecast for the end of the year, the Minister of Finance mentioned that three months ago they were talking about predicting a 6.5 percent economic growth, but now they think it will not be like that.
“It will not exceed six percent, but let’s summarize October to talk about more reliable forecasts,” said the minister.
