New Delhi: Former Chief Operating Officer Anand Subramanian, who was arrested on Thursday in connection with the National Stock Exchange (NSE) scam, has been identified by the CBI as a ‘Himalayan saint’ in the case. The CBI had found that Chitra Ramakrishnan, the former managing director and chief executive officer of NSE, had committed the offense at the behest of a ‘saint’ in the Himalayas.

According to CBI sources, Anand Subramaniam was the ‘saint’ who communicated with the film via email. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) had said that Anand’s controversial appointment was one of the decisions taken by the film under the influence of ‘Sanyasi’. According to the CBI, Anand revealed that he was a ‘saint’ through an email ID.

The CBI also said that there was evidence that Anand had created the mail id [email protected]. Between 2013 and 2016, Chitra shared confidential information related to the NSE from the mail id [email protected] to the mail ID [email protected]. Some of these emails also went to Anand’s other mail id. Screenshots of mails were recovered from Anand’s mail IDs.

Anand was questioned by the CBI on February 19, 20, 21 and 24. He was arrested in Chennai at 11 pm on Thursday. The CBI said that Anand did not co-operate with the interrogation and gave an evasive reply.
