Almost 12 years after the release of ‘Zindagi Gulzar Hai,’ Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed reunited in the serial ‘Barzakh.’ Only six episodes of this show have aired, sparking significant controversy. The drama has been so controversial that the TV channel and creators have made a joint decision to remove it from YouTube.
Fawad Khan announced ‘Barzakh’ on March 19, 2023, and its first look was shared. The show premiered on the Zindagi channel on July 19, 2024, and is also available on the OTT platform Zee5 and the channel’s YouTube channel.
Why the Controversy over ‘Barzakh’?
Following the release of the first six episodes directed by Asim Abbasi, the neighboring country has been abuzz with debate. The show features bold scenes and depicts a romance between gay couples in a way that has shocked viewers. Critics accuse the creators of undermining Pakistani culture and disrespecting societal norms.
‘Barzakh’ Banned on YouTube!
In response to the controversy, the makers of ‘Barzakh’ have voluntarily removed the show from YouTube in Pakistan. A statement read, “We express our gratitude to the audience for their unwavering love and support. This show was created to unite people from all over the world, but in light of the current public sentiment in Pakistan, we have decided to withdraw ‘Barzakh’ from YouTube Pakistan effective August 9, 2024.”
Pakistani Public Still Divided
Despite the ban, the controversy in Pakistan continues. Some users commented on the post, calling for a global ban on the show. Others defended the creators, praising their efforts to progress Pakistani cinema.
