Citizens Committed to Women’s Rights
August 5, 2024
The issue of women’s rights, violence against women, and the existing legal mechanisms to address these issues remain relevant in Gabon. In response to this, the “Participating Citizens” project conducted a field mission in the Ngounié and Woleu Ntem provinces.
The mission, which took place from July 25th to August 3rd, 2024, involved raising awareness and providing training to women on various issues related to women’s rights. This included:
Educating the public about women’s rights, violence against women, and existing legal protections.
Conducting a digital awareness campaign in Libreville from February to May 2024.
Organizing field missions in the towns of Mouila, Ndendé, Lébamba, and the villages of Elarmilo, Mindzi, and Ngomessi Ebea.
The project’s aim is to reduce gender inequality and empower women in Gabon. This includes raising awareness of their rights, providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate challenges, and advocating for their equal participation in society.
The mission involved various activities, including:
Engaging with local authorities.
Mobilizing and involving relay correspondents.
Organizing awareness sessions.
Raising awareness about legal frameworks, such as Law 006/2021 on combating violence against women.
Addressing issues of psychological, verbal, and economic violence.
The mission was well-received by the local population, who expressed their appreciation for the initiative and requested future engagements of this kind.
