Morocco has welcomed the mediation efforts of Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, which led to the agreement. This was stated by Mr. Bourita during a joint press conference with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Libya, Mr. Abdoulaye Bathily, following their talks.
Mr. Bourita emphasized that the Kingdom of Morocco highly values the significant effort that resulted in this agreement, which could be a crucial step towards a lasting and verifiable ceasefire.
As highlighted by His Majesty King Mohammed VI on numerous occasions, most recently during the Extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh, de-escalation is essential for enabling the delivery of humanitarian aid and becoming part of the process leading towards a lasting ceasefire.
The Kingdom of Morocco believes that this truce will primarily facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid and alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.
Mr. Bourita noted that the Middle East region cannot overcome its current challenges without recognizing the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish their own independent state.
He also emphasized that Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, is committed to finding a lasting solution to the crisis in the Middle East. This requires the international community to move beyond crisis management and embrace new perspectives to address the underlying issues, including the fulfillment of the Palestinian people’s rights.
Mr. Bourita stressed the need to move beyond crisis management and embrace a genuine political process leading to a two-state solution, with a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, and Jerusalem as its capital, existing alongside an Israeli state.
