“I really want to focus on exercise… I will talk about it after discussing it with the association and my team.”
Badminton Association: “We will not respond laxly… We will investigate the circumstances of the misdiagnosis and prevent recurrence.”
News about Kim without Ahn’s photo on the association’s SNS… Netizens criticize “being narrow-minded”
An Se-young (22), who returned to Korea on the 7th after finishing the Paris Olympics, said about her remarks from two days ago, “I did not intend to fight, but I wanted to appeal my sincere desire to focus on sports. Please understand that.”
Ahn Se-young, who entered the country that afternoon, was tight-lipped during a two-minute interview with reporters at the Incheon International Airport arrival hall, saying, “I haven’t talked to the association yet and I haven’t discussed anything with the team (Samsung Life Insurance) either, so I’ll discuss the details as soon as possible and get back to you.”
Before boarding a flight to Korea at Paris Charles de Gaulle International Airport, Ahn Se-young had said, “My position is that I’ll explain everything when I get to Korea. Please wait a little bit. It’s very complicated right now.”
Immediately after winning the gold medal in the women’s singles badminton event at the Paris Olympics on the 5th, Ahn Se-young made remarks that could be seen as her intention to leave the national team, expressing her dissatisfaction with the national team and the Korea Badminton Association in the mixed zone (joint press area) of the stadium and at the press conference.
The Badminton Association issued a 10-page press release about an hour after Ahn Se-young’s airport interview that day. It contained a point-by-point refutation of Ahn Se-young’s comments made two days ago right after the finals, and also stated that it would form a fact-finding committee to investigate whether her comments were true. The association did not acknowledge Ahn Se-young’s statement that “the injury was more serious than expected, but the national team was complacent.” However, it stated that it would investigate how the partial rupture of Ahn’s knee ligaments that she suffered in the finals of the Hangzhou Asian Games last year was misdiagnosed as being less serious than it actually was during her first medical examination after returning to Korea.
Netizens criticized the Badminton Association for only posting the names of the players and the score (2-0 win) in graphics without photos of the award ceremony or the match.
The Korea Sports Council announced on the 7th that it decided to form a fact-finding committee comprised of four external audit experts…
