China will achieve its final goal of reducing carbon emissions by 2029, and then continue to reduce this figure by 400 million tons per year, according to a report titled “Decisive Battle: Progress in Comprehensively Deepening Reforms in China and Ensuring High-Quality Standards in the New Era, and Prospects for 2029 and 2035.” The report, prepared by the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China, the Free Economic Society of Russia, the Economics and Geopolitics Research Group of the University of Manitoba (Canada) and the China-India Council for Culture and Economy, was published by Day.Az, citing TASS.
“The target for achieving the maximum reduction in carbon emissions is expected to be achieved by 2029. China will then continue to reduce carbon emissions by 400 million tons annually and become the country that has achieved the highest result in reducing emissions,” the report notes.
The document also claims that by the specified deadline, more than half of China’s cities will have completely switched to green energy sources.
