What is modern pentathlon?
Modern pentathlon consists of five sports: fencing, swimming, show jumping, pistol shooting, and running. These disciplines are combined into a thrilling test of physical fitness, mental agility, and tactical skills.
Schedule and format:
The modern pentathlon will take place from August 8-11, 2024. The competition will feature 72 athletes (36 men and 36 women) who will compete in a series of events, including:
- Horse riding (jumping): Overcoming a 12-obstacle course with 15 jumps.
- Fencing: A timed individual competition with a bonus round.
- Swimming (200 meters freestyle)
- Combined event (laser run): A 3,000-meter race with four shooting stops.
What are the results?
The athlete who accumulates the most points across all five disciplines will be crowned the champion. The final ranking will be determined by the laser run, with athletes starting with a handicap based on their total points from the previous events.
