Anti-Semitic incidents surged in the Czech Republic in 2023, with a 90% increase compared to the previous year. The ČTK news agency reported this, citing the Federation of Jewish Communities of the Republic. Day.Az cites TASS.
A total of 4,328 anti-Semitic incidents were registered in the country in 2023, compared to 2,277 in 2022. The rise is attributed to the worsening international situation.
Almost all (98%) of the anti-Semitic incidents in 2023 occurred in the virtual space, primarily on social networks. Offensive lies and conspiracy theories targeting Jews proliferated online. Public events witnessed 57 instances of anti-Semitism.
No violent attacks against individuals of Jewish nationality were reported in the republic in 2023. Only two such incidents have occurred in the Czech Republic over the past five years, in 2020 and 2021.
