Park Kyung-yi Embraces a New Chapter in Mountain Climbing
Park Kyung-yi, a renowned mountaineer and former director of the National Mountaineering Museum, has embraced a new chapter in his life by prioritizing his health and finding joy in different ways to connect with the mountains.
A Life Filled with Mountain Adventures
Park’s climbing journey began in 1985 when he joined the mountaineering club at Seoul National University. He quickly became known for his prowess in rock climbing and went on to conquer numerous peaks, including Ama Dablam and Gasherbrum II. Despite reaching great heights, Park acknowledges the physical limitations that come with age and now prioritizes his well-being.
Finding New Ways to Enjoy the Mountains
After his remarkable climbing career, Park discovered new ways to connect with the mountains. He took up kayaking, exploring the serene lakes and rivers. He also started skiing, competing in the Asian Mountain Skiing Cup and earning an international mountain ski referee license.
Sharing His Experiences and Insights
Park has documented his experiences in two books: “Embracing the Soul, Himalaya” and ”Baekdudaegan We Didn’t Know.” He uses his platform to inspire others and share valuable insights about mountain climbing and the importance of respecting the natural world.
A Life of Continued Exploration
These days, Park enjoys leisurely walks on the Yeongrangho Lake Trail, climbs nearby peaks like Jubongsan and Cheongdaesan, and kayaks to the foot of mountains. He finds joy in the beauty of the surrounding landscapes and prioritizes his health while embracing a new chapter in his mountain-filled life.
