Norwegian hurdler Karsten Warholm expressed his surprise at Frenchman Clément Ducos’ impressive fourth place finish in the 400m hurdles at the Stade de France on Friday.
“I didn’t see that coming,”
Warholm admitted, referring to Ducos’ performance.
When asked about Ducos in a press conference, Warholm confessed, “Honestly, I’ve never heard of it.” He added, “but the world takes hold.”
The Olympic champion went on to praise Ducos’ running, calling his performance “very hot.” He expressed his admiration for Ducos’ energy and determination.
“He ran well,” Warholm said. “After the first two rounds (both athletes went head-to-head each time), I had my eye on him. I find it hot, let’s say…very hot!”
Ducos’ fourth-place finish was a notable achievement, and Warholm acknowledged his accomplishment.
“A fourth place, you can be very proud of it,” he said. “I honestly didn’t see it coming, and I’d be surprised to see it coming myself.”
Warholm also shared a brief conversation with American hurdler Rai Benjamin, who won gold. Benjamin revealed that he studied at the University of Tennessee and spoke some French.
