Traffic Congestion at Danube Bridge Border Checkpoint
Updated, August 10, 2024, 3:27 PM
The traffic flow at the Danube Bridge border checkpoint near Ruse is currently experiencing high congestion, with long queues of both cars and trucks reported.
Vehicles bound for Romania are facing wait times of approximately 30 minutes to cross the bridge during midday and early afternoon hours. While passenger car traffic typically normalizes after 6:00 PM, trucks are experiencing longer delays.
The Bulgarian section of the 70-year-old bridge is currently undergoing a major overhaul. Construction and installation works are ongoing on a 200-meter section of the entrance lane, leading to temporary traffic restrictions. The exit lane towards Romania is currently not operational and is being managed by traffic signals. Border police officers are also assisting with traffic organization.
Trucks are primarily queuing within the designated buffer parking lot. However, a backlog has formed from the roundabout at the Danube Bridge all the way to the Ruse Free Zone.
Over the past 24 hours, a total of 2,642 trucks have crossed the bridge in both directions. Of these, 1,451 trucks departed Bulgaria, while 1,191 entered the country.
Border authorities urge drivers to adhere to overtaking restrictions and follow the instructions of officials managing traffic flow.
