Why is Mia Khalifa a topic of discussion in India?
The image of Mia Khalifa, a former porn star, was placed on a hoarding for a religious festival in the Kanchipuram district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Goddess Amma (Parvati) is worshiped in temples across Tamil Nadu, and her celebrations are usually grandly organized in every village.
During these celebrations, hoardings are often put up at the Nagathaman and Seliyaman temples in Kuruvimalai. One such hoarding recently went viral when Mia Khalifa’s photo appeared alongside images of deities. The image had been edited and uploaded.
The people responsible for putting up the hoarding also ensured that their own picture was displayed, and wrote their names on the hoarding, akin to an Aadhaar card. This action prompted the police to intervene and remove the hoarding.
It’s worth noting that Mia Khalifa has since left the porn industry and has spoken out against it, encouraging young women to avoid such work.
