Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed a festive event commemorating the 32nd anniversary of the Armenian Armed Forces, highlighting the republic’s strengthened defense capabilities and offering security guarantees to Azerbaijan.
“Every country has the right to maintain a strong and combat-ready army, and no one can question that right,” the Prime Minister stated. “Anyone who questions this right threatens our very existence. In such a case, we will be compelled to protect our statehood, independence, and territorial integrity by all available means.”
The Prime Minister emphasized that Armenia recognizes only its sovereign territory and rejects any territorial claims from other parties. He offered security guarantees to Azerbaijan, including:
Mirror withdrawal of troops: A reciprocal withdrawal of troops to the administrative border established in 1991.
Demilitarization of the border: Demilitarization of the border region between the two countries.
Mutual arms control: Implementation of a mutual arms control mechanism.
Non-aggression pact: Signing a non-aggression pact if a peace treaty takes longer to negotiate.
“The Republic of Armenia is committed to peaceful coexistence and will not deviate from this agenda,” the Prime Minister concluded.
