Traffic Control by Students in Dhaka
The streets of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, are witnessing a unique experiment in traffic management. Since August 6th, students, volunteers, and members of various political parties have taken on the responsibility of traffic control, replacing the absent traffic police. This unusual scene has been spotted across various roads in the city, including Rayerbagh, Shanir Akhra, Jatrabari, Bangshal, Fulbaria, and Gulistan zero point.
Along with ordinary students, individuals from organizations like Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, and the Red Crescent Society are directing traffic, guiding pedestrians, and ensuring smooth movement of vehicles. Their efforts are not without challenges, with some expressing frustration at the lack of adherence to traffic laws. However, the students remain motivated, driven by a desire to restore order and discipline to the roads.
Student volunteers like Ataur Rahman, who participates in various public welfare activities, highlight the importance of their involvement. With no police presence on the streets, the burden of maintaining traffic falls on the community. Students are stepping up to this responsibility, ensuring the smooth flow of traffic and raising awareness about traffic regulations.
The initiative has received positive feedback from the city residents. Haji Ambar Ali, a Rayerbagh resident, appreciates the students’ dedication and discipline in managing traffic. Drivers like Murad Hossain also acknowledge the helpful guidance provided by the students, who have improved traffic flow and reduced congestion.
