The fund was allocated in the Omnibus decree. A solution is being sought to save the scientific institute that has accumulated 150 million in debt.
The Meloni government intervened urgently, with an extraordinary contribution of 11 million to rescue the Santa Lucia scientific institute (Irccs), a hospital specialized in neuromotor rehabilitation. The contribution, allocated for 2024, aims to provide a structural solution that will allow Santa Lucia to continue operating stably. The funding for the hospital was reported by government sources.
To avoid closure and address the deep financial crisis of the institute, a meeting was held last Tuesday with the Minister of Enterprise, the hospital president, and union representatives. The most accredited hypothesis for continuing operation was extraordinary administration.
Rocca: “Concrete action from the government”
The same president Rocca expressed concern about the risk of layoffs and the need to guarantee the services currently provided. He recalled the meeting with Minister Urso and emphasized that the allocation of 11 million represents a concrete signal for the 800 workers and those supported by the structure. This sum will allow payment of wages during this time of crisis.
The governor of Lazio suggested the creation of a new legal entity, involving the Region and a private non-profit organization, to address the situation. The ultimate goal is to save a center of excellence in rehabilitation and neuroscience research, ensuring continuity of care and safeguarding jobs.
