Athlete G. Venčkauskaitė Continues Strong Showing at Tokyo Olympics
Three years ago, G. Venčkauskaitė arrived at the Tokyo Olympics pregnant. Despite the challenges, she managed to secure 7th place. Now, with her daughters safely at home, the athlete is back in Paris with renewed determination.
On Saturday, she secured her place in the final of the pentathlon, showcasing incredible tenacity and endurance in the running and shooting events during the A semi-finals. Lithuania secured their spot in the final by finishing ninth in the overall standings.
G. Venčkauskaitė entered the final in 6th position after finishing 2nd in the B semi-final. Her performance throughout the competition has earned her 505 points, placing her in 8th place after the riding event.
Despite losing her first fencing match in the additional fencing event, G. Venčkauskaitė maintained 7th place overall. In the 200 m freestyle, she secured 3rd place, earning 272 points.
The running and shooting event proved challenging, with G. Venčkauskaitė starting 11th and eventually finishing 6th with 615 points. Despite the heat and strong competition, she remained determined, stating, “I didn’t feel confident, but I knew I had to push myself.”
G. Venčkauskaitė finished 13th out of 36 athletes in the pentathlon. Her teammate, Laura Asadauskaitė-Zadneprovskienė, placed 16th.
The final of the pentathlon will take place on Sunday at 12 o’clock. G. Venčkauskaitė and her coach are confident that she can recover and perform well in the remaining events.
