Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem Wins Gold in Javelin Throw at Paris Olympics
Pakistan celebrated a historic victory at the 2024 Paris Olympics as javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem clinched gold with a record-breaking throw. This triumph ended Pakistan’s 40-year wait for an individual gold medal at the Games.
Nadeem’s remarkable performance saw him throw the javelin 92.97 meters in the final round, surpassing his previous career best and setting a new Olympic record. This distance ranks sixth among the longest javelin throws in history, and is the highest recorded throw of the year.
This remarkable achievement not only secured gold for Pakistan but also marked the first individual gold medal ever won by a Pakistani athlete at the Olympics. Additionally, Nadeem became the first Pakistani to win gold in track and field.
The silver medal went to India’s Neeraj Chopra, while Grenada’s Anderson Peter secured the bronze.
Nadeem’s journey to gold was remarkable. He had previously reached the final of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics but finished in fifth place. This time, he received the support of the Olympic Solidarity Scholarship, which provided him with a modern javelin just days before the competition.
