The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has named a five-man pace attack for the two Tests of the ICC Test Championship against Pakistan. Taskin Ahmed has been recalled to the squad after a hiatus.
Taskin had taken a break from red-ball cricket to manage his workload. After a year and a half, the selectors have brought him back to the Test squad. Taskin himself expressed his desire to return to red-ball cricket and had been practicing privately.
Before joining the national team, Taskin will need to take a fitness test for the ‘A’ team. The Bangladesh ‘A’ team is currently in Pakistan for a four-day match. Taskin is expected to join the team after some practice and will play in the second match.
The selectors have chosen five pacers for the series, including Hasan Mahmood, Shariful Islam, Nahid Rana, and Syed Khaled Ahmed, alongside Taskin. Chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu explained that the decision to include five pacers was due to Taskin’s lack of recent red-ball experience.
“As Taskin Ahmed will only play the second Test, we have selected five pacers. He has not bowled a Test since June last year and we have decided to play him in the second four-day match against the Pakistan ‘A’ team to get him in rhythm for the longer version of the match,” Lipu said.
